This instructor-led course, based on Durable Trades, is designed for high school students (grades 9-12) of all backgrounds and abilities. Over twelve weeks, students will learn about and discuss what makes for meaningful, family-centered, and God-honoring careers.
The main objectives of the course are for students to:
- Develop a vision for meaningful work
- Explore alternative career paths to the college-debt-route
- Learn practical skills through hands-on exercises
- Understand the Family Economy and its role in creating a durable future
Students will learn about and discuss a variety of topics, including:
- How the world of work and job market has changed over the last several years and how it will continue to change
- Comparing college with entering the trades
- The value of mentorship
- Entrepreneurship and how to start your own business
Students will also complete a project where they develop and start a “mini-business” to put into practice all they learn throughout the course.
Format
The class will meet online (via Zoom) once each week from the week of March 16 through the week of June 8. Each hour-long class session will include a lesson, as well as time for students to discuss what they’re learning and share their progress on individual tasks and projects.
Instructor
Class sessions will be led by Dan Lathrop, an educator with more than twenty years of experience teaching students and leading professional learning for adults. He is most passionate about teaching the Bible and discipling others to walk faithfully after Jesus.
Cost
The cost for the 12-week course is $195 per student, with an early-bird price of $150 until March 4th. Includes all materials needed.
